About NURSES NOOK

NURSES NOOK is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin. Our organization was established to address the growing need for comprehensive support systems for nurses and healthcare professionals in our region, while simultaneously improving health outcomes for underserved populations in our community.

Our Founding Vision

The founding members of NURSES NOOK recognized that nurses often face significant challenges in their professional lives, including limited access to continuing education, lack of mentorship opportunities, and insufficient resources to maintain work-life balance. Additionally, many communities in rural Wisconsin lack adequate access to preventive healthcare services and health education.

Driven by these observations, NURSES NOOK was created to serve as a central hub for nursing support and community health initiatives. We believe that investing in nurses is investing in community health, and that every healthcare professional deserves the tools, resources, and support necessary to thrive in their career.

Our Commitment to Wisconsin

As a Wisconsin-based organization, we are deeply committed to serving the unique healthcare needs of our state. From the rural communities of Oconto County to the broader Wisconsin healthcare landscape, we work to ensure that nurses have access to quality education, professional support, and career advancement opportunities. Simultaneously, we bring essential health services directly to communities that need them most.

Professional Mentorship Program

Our mentorship program pairs experienced nurses with new graduates and early-career professionals to provide guidance, support, and professional development. This program addresses the critical transition from nursing education to professional practice, helping new nurses build confidence, develop clinical skills, and navigate the challenges of their early careers.

Mentorship components include:
One-on-one pairing with experienced nurse mentors
Monthly group meetings and peer support sessions
Career planning and goal-setting workshops
Clinical skills observation and feedback
Emotional support and stress management resources
Networking opportunities within the Wisconsin nursing community

Research shows that nurses who participate in mentorship programs during their first years of practice are more likely to remain in the profession, report higher job satisfaction, and provide better patient care. Our mentorship program is an investment in the future of Wisconsin nursing.

We maintain a comprehensive resource center providing access to medical literature, study materials, and professional tools for healthcare workers. Our resource center includes:

Digital library of nursing journals, research papers, and clinical guidelines

Why NURSES NOOK Matters

Why NURSES NOOK Matters

The nursing profession faces unprecedented challenges. Nationwide, hospitals and healthcare facilities are experiencing severe nursing shortages. Burnout rates among nurses have reached alarming levels. Many experienced nurses are leaving the profession, while new graduates struggle to find adequate support as they enter the workforce.

In Wisconsin, these challenges are particularly acute in rural areas like Oconto County, where healthcare facilities often operate with limited staff and resources. Nurses in these settings frequently work long hours with insufficient support, leading to burnout and turnover that further strains the healthcare system.

NURSES NOOK was created to address these challenges head-on. By providing continuing education, we help nurses stay current with best practices and advance their careers. Through mentorship, we support new nurses during the critical early years of their careers. With community health outreach, we extend the reach of healthcare services to populations that might otherwise go without.

Our work matters because nurses matter. They are the largest segment of the healthcare workforce, the professionals who spend the most time with patients, and the caregivers who often make the difference between a good outcome and a poor one. When we support nurses, we are supporting the entire healthcare system and the communities it serves.
